Frost Catchers Casting Their Winter Shadows

by Allen Bukoff

After a winter storm, I discovered the frost catchers throwing their afternoon shadows on a new layer of glittering snow. I got out my camera and attempted to capture these ephemeral shadows. The photo session took place late in the afternoon of 14 February 2007--Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day was also the birthday of my father, Sam Bukoff, who died in December of 1990. So it was all a confluence of natural beauty, deep feelings, and the ephemeral nature of our experience.

Photos of the frost catcher shadows made their public debut on the Fluxlist blog.
